Pirates pitchers and catchers took the field Tuesday for their first Spring Training workout, and with that came the beginning of a competition for Pittsburgh's final rotation spot.

Tyler Allen Glasnow (pronounced GLASS-now)...Is a 2011 graduate of Hart High School in Newhall, CA, where he earned Foothill League Pitcher-of-the-Year honors as a senior after going 8-2 with a 1.25 ERA and 99 strikeouts in 67.0 innings pitched...Wears a size 16 shoe...His older brother Ted was a decathlete at Notre Dame in 2014 and is currently training for the Olympics...His mother Donna is a gymnastics coach at Cal State-Northridge...Is a product of the same High School baseball program that produced James Shields, along with 2011 third overall selection Trevor Bauer and former Bucco pitcher and current broadcaster Bob Walk...Signed by Pirates scout Rick Allen ...Participated in the team's annual caravan and PirateFest events this past December in Pittsburgh.
