The Pirates added another arm to their bullpen competition on Thursday, acquiring right-hander Pat Light from the Twins in exchange for cash or a player to be named.

With Adalberto Mejia optioned to Triple-A Rochester after throwing 2 1/3 innings in his Major League debut on Saturday, the Twins called up right-handed reliever Pat Light prior to Sunday's game against the Royals.

Patrick James Light. Signed by Ray Fagnant (Red Sox). Went 14-14 with a 3.84 ERA (100 ER/234.1 IP) in 3 seasons at Monmouth University and became the highest draft pick in school history...Set single-season school records as a junior in 2012 with 102 SO and 101.1 IP en route to being named 2012 New Jersey Collegiate Baseball Association Pitcher of the Year. Graduated from Christian Brothers (NJ) Academy. Selected by the Twins in the 28th round of the 2009 June Draft, but did not sign.

2015

Combined with Double-A Portland (21 G) and Triple-A Pawtucket (26 G) to go 3-5 with 5 saves, a 3.88 ERA (27 ER/62.2 IP), a .211 opponent AVG (49-for-232), and .297 opponent SLG in 47 appearances, all in relief...Averaged 9.6 SO/9.0 IP (67 SO). Led Red Sox minor league pitchers in appearances. Held right-handed batters to a .186 AVG/.279 OBP/.248 SLG line (27-for-145, 5 XBH). Began the season with Portland...Allowed 6 ER in his first 4 appearances (9.0 IP), but posted a 0.87 ERA and .118 opponent AVG in his remaining 17 games with the Sea Dogs (20.2 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 0 HR).
