Justin Meccage #87

JUSTIN MECCAGE is in his first season as coach at the Major League level and his eighth overall in the Pittsburgh organization. Meccage spent the 2017 season as the Minor League Pitching Coordinator, overseeing the pitching efforts at each of the minor league affiliates. Prior to his assignment last year, Justin spent two seasons (2015-16) as the Pitching Coach with Double-A Altoona. He also served as Pitching Coach for the Glendale Desert Dogs in the Arizona Fall League in 2015. Meccage began his tenure with the Pirates organization as the Pitching Coach with State College in 2011. He also worked in the same capacity with the Bradenton club in 2013 and 2014. In 2010, Meccage was the Pitching Coach at Arkansas State University and was named the Sun Belt Conference Assistant Coach-of-the-Year by SEBaseball.com. He joined the ASU coaching staff in August of 2007. Prior to joining the Arkansas State staff, Justin served as an assistant coach, recruiting coordinator and pitching coach for Texas-Pan American University from 2004-2007. The former right-handed pitcher was selected by the New York Yankees in the 32nd round of the 2002 First-Year Player Draft out of Oklahoma State University. He pitched professionally for two seasons (2002-03) with Staten Island in the New York-Penn League, where he posted a 2-2 record, two saves and a 3.83 ERA in 20 total games (three starts). Meccage also pitched with Cook County in the independent Frontier League in 2003 before moving into the coaching ranks in 2004.

PERSONAL: Justin Robert Meccage (pronounced like the word "message")...Wife's name is Stacee...Has three sons; Kyler (8/1/08), Hudson (8/17/10) and Rylan (12/21/12)...Is a 1998 graduate of Charles M. Russell High School in Great Falls, MT...Pitched two seasons at Arizona Western College before playing at Oklahoma State in 2001-02...Went 6-2 with a 4.60 ERA (92.0ip/47er) and 75 strikeouts in 31 games (five starts) at OSU...Received the Chuck Tanner Award in March 2017, an award presented by the Pirates Player Development department since 2011 to a minor league staff member who best exemplifies Tanner's optimism, work ethic and leadership...Participated in Piratesfest this past December.
