PITTSBURGH -- Pirates right-hander Kevin Hart will have surgery on Tuesday to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder.
The procedure was recommended by Pirates medical director Dr. Patrick DeMeo last week and confirmed by Dr. James Andrews on Monday. Hart had traveled to Birmingham, Ala., to get a second opinion on the diagnosis.
Andrews will perform the surgery on Tuesday morning. Players undergoing this type of a procedure typically have an eight-to-10-month recovery period. The Pirates remain optimistic that Hart will be ready to pitch by the start of Spring Training next season.
