Dotel flies home to be with pregnant wife
LOS ANGELES -- Closer Octavio Dotel flew back to Pittsburgh before Sunday's game vs. the Dodgers to be with his wife, Massiel, who is expecting to give birth to the couple's first child.
With Dotel unavailable on Sunday, manager John Russell said a save opportunity would go to either Joel Hanrahan or Evan Meek. Hanrahan has 14 career saves, while Meek picked up his first with a 1-2-3 inning against Los Angeles on Thursday.
Dotel is expected to rejoin the Pirates for the start of the next homestand on Tuesday. He last pitched on Wednesday and is 3-for-5 in save opportunities this season.
