DETROIT -- As the series between the Pirates and Tigers shifted to Detroit on Wednesday, catcher Ramon Cabrera took the opposite trajectory -- from the Tigers' organization to Pittsburgh's.
The Pirates claimed Cabrera off waivers then optioned him to Double-A Altoona. He had been hitting .277 with 47 RBIs in 107 games with Double-A Erie this season.
In order to clear room for Cabrera, who was traded from Pittsburgh to Detroit earlier in his career, the club designated right-hander Wirfin Obispo for assignment.
