PITTSBURGH -- The Pirates won an eighth-inning challenge, overturning a safe call at second base.

Padres pinch-hitter Will Venable reached base with a one-out single and tried to steal second. Reliever Jared Hughes pitched out, and Russell Martin threw a strike to shortstop Jordy Mercer.

Venable was called safe, but replays showed Mercer got a tag on Venable before his hand hit the bag, and the call was overturned after review.
