Bucs activate Walker, outright Tabata to Triple-A

The Pirates activated Neil Walker from the disabled list on Tuesday. The second baseman returns to the active roster after a two-week recovery from an appendectomy, with the Bucs outrighting Jose Tabata to Triple-A Indianapolis to make room for him.

Walker, who was batting .280 with 11 homers when he hit the DL, hasn't played for the Pirates since an 0-for-2 game on June 8. He went 1-for-4 with a walk in a rehab appearance for Class A Bradenton on Sunday. Walker started slow with a .235 batting average in April, but he hit .313 (35-for-112) in May and was batting .320 in seven June games before his injury.

Tabata hit .289 in 62 games for the Bucs, but he's slugging .331 and has just five extra-base hits this season and walked seven times in his first 154 plate appearances.
