Pirates sign 11th round selection Erich Weiss


The Pittsburgh Pirates today signed the following player from the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Director of Scouting.

Hit .299 (53-for-177) with seven doubles, three triples, one home run and 24 RBI in 49 games this year as a junior at the University of Texas ... Started all 52 of Texas' games as a sophomore and hit .350 with five home runs and 38 RBI while taking home All-Big 12 first-team honors ... Earned Louisville Slugger/Collegiate Baseball Freshman All-America honors after hitting .348 in 68 games in 2011 ... His father Gary played for the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Pirates have now signed 28 players from this year's Draft, including each of their first 20 selections.
