Pirates sign 2013 Third Round Selection JaCoby Jones

The Pittsburgh Pirates today announced they have signed shortstop JaCoby Jones, the club's third round selection in the 2013 First-Year Player Draft. The announcement was made by Joe DelliCarri, Pirates Director of Scouting.

Jones hit .294 (59-for-201) with 11 doubles, one triple, six home runs, 31 RBI and 42 runs scored in 59 games as a junior in 2013 with Louisiana State University. He was also voted to the second-team All-SEC team by the league's coaches this past season.

The 21-year-old shortstop also earned freshman All-America and freshman All-SEC honors in 2011 after hitting .338 with 11 doubles, one triple, four homers, 32 RBI, 36 runs scored and 12 stolen bases in 56 games.

Jones was the 2010 Mississippi High School Player-of-the-Year and the 2010 Louisville Slugger Mississippi Player-of-the-Year and a second-team All-American selection by Baseball America. As a senior in
high school, he hit .503 with nine home runs, 46 RBI and 42 stolen bases. Jones will begin his professional career with the Jamestown Jammers of the New York-Penn League. The Pirates have now signed 23 players from the 2013 First-Year Player Draft.
