Pittsburgh's Sanchez disciplined

Pitcher Jonathan Sanchez of the Pittsburgh Pirates has received a six-game suspension and an undisclosed fine for intentionally throwing a pitch at Allen Craig of the St. Louis Cardinals in the bottom of the first inning of Friday night's game at Busch Stadium in St. Louis. Joe Garagiola, Jr., Senior Vice President of Standards & Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement.

Sanchez's suspension had been scheduled to begin today, when the Pirates are to continue their series in St. Louis. However, he has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the suspension of Sanchez will be held in abeyance until the process is complete.
