Pirates, Inge agree on Minor League deal

|

The Pittsburgh Pirates have signed infielder Brandon Inge to a Minor League contract that includes an invitation to Major League Spring Training, which is scheduled to begin Friday morning for all position players.

Inge, 35, began the 2012 season with Detroit and appeared in nine games with the Tigers before being released on April 26. He signed with Oakland on April 30 and went on to hit .226 (64-for-283) with 11 home runs and 52 RBI in 74 games with the Athletics.
Primarily a third baseman, Inge has also made appearances at catcher, second base and all three outfield positions during his big league career.

Originally selected by Detroit in the second round of the 1998 First-Year Player Draft, Inge made his Major League debut with the Tigers in 2001. An American League All-Star in 2009, Inge led the league with 161 games played that season while hitting 27 home runs and knocking in 84 runs.

With the addition of Inge, a total of 61 players are expected to be in major league camp this spring.
