The run, sponsored by Pirates Charities, is open to fans of all ages and takes place on Pittsburgh's North Shore, finishing inside PNC Park. Top male and female runners in each age group (under 15, 16-19 and 10-year age groups from 20 to 70-plus) and those who compete as teams will be recognized on the field at PNC Park prior to that night's game against the Reds.
All participants are invited to the post-race party on Federal Street after the event, which will include complimentary food and beverages, and all runners will receive a T-shirt and ticket. In addition, all participants will receive a voucher good for a game at PNC Park from April 13-17.
"The Pittsburgh Pirates 5K Home Run has become a tremendous annual event and is a great way for our fans to have fun while helping to raise funds for Pirates Charities," Pirates president Frank Coonelly said in a statement. "The success of this event has been overwhelming the past two years, and we look forward to another special event in 2013."
Participants also will be entered into drawings to win Pirates 2013 season tickets, autographed Pirates memorabilia and more.
