Bucs hire Ferrone as special assistant

The Pirates announced on Monday that Joe Ferrone was added to the front office as a special assistant to general manager Neal Huntington.

Ferrone, 42, who previously worked in the Pirates organization as a West Coast area scout in 2003, spent the past five seasons working as a west coast regional crosschecker for the Tigers.

In a scouting career that began with the Expos as an area scout in 1993-94, Ferrone also spent eight years as an area scout for the Dodgers from 1995-98 before he became a West Coast scouting supervisor from 1999-2002.
