PITTSBURGH -- Following Saturday night's game against the Rays, the Pirates optioned right-hander Ty Taubenheim to Triple-A Indianapolis.
The club has recalled right-handed pitcher Romulo Sanchez from Indianapolis. In 25 relief appearances with the Indians, Sanchez was 4-0 with four saves and a 2.85 ERA. Sanchez made 16 outings with the Pirates last year, and posted a 1-0 record.
Taubenheim, called up from Triple-A Indianapolis as an emergency starter on Saturday night, gave Pittsburgh a strong six innings. He allowed two runs on seven hits and recorded four strikeouts. Taubenheim was credited with a no-decision.
Taubenheim wasn't disappointed that he was sent back to Triple-A.
"That's nothing that I can control," Taubenheim said. "So it's nothing that I'm going to worry about. Like I said, I was worried about Saturday and that's really it."
