Position players arrive early at Pirate City
BRADENTON, Fla. -- Not out loud, but Pirates manager Clint Hurdle might have been thinking the song, "Hey, hey, the gang's almost all here."

Wednesday's arrivals of Andrew McCutchen, Chase d'Arnaud and Yamaico Navarro raised Pirate City's population to near-capacity.

Just about everyone has been fashionably early. Friday is the official reporting day for position players, who will go through the first full-squad workout on Saturday.

By now, everyone is in attendance with the exception of outfielder Gorkys Hernandez, non-roster infielder Anderson Hernandez and Gustavo Nunez -- who took his sore right ankle on the disabled list a couple of days ago, creating a roster spot for A.J. Burnett.

"Everyone but three guys are here because they want to be here, to start their work and get started on becoming cohesive," said Hurdle, who avoided reading too much into the significance of the trend. "But it's a good sign."
