Pirates at the plate: Steve Pearce and Doug Mientkiewicz contributed two hits and an RBI apiece. Ryan Doumit and Raul Chavez chipped in with run-scoring singles.

Lancers at the plate: Garrett Gregory's third-inning double was one of three hits by the Lancers.

Pirates on the mound: Starter Yoslan Herrera allowed one base runner in two innings and struck out two. Right-hander Jesse Chavez pitched a scoreless inning, striking out two. Marino Salas retired the side in order and fanned two in an inning of work.

Lancers on the mound: Right-hander Nick Debacker pitched two scoreless innings after the Pirates roughed up starter Scott Rembisz with a four-run first. Jonathan Griffin added a perfect inning in relief.

Grapefruit League record: Pirates 0-0.

Up next: The Pirates open their 40th Grapefruit League season on Thursday with a 1:05 p.m. ET game against Philadelphia at McKechnie Field. Left-hander Tom Gorzelanny will start for Pittsburgh against Philadelphia right-hander Kyle Kendrick. Also scheduled to pitch for the Pirates are Bryan Bullington, Phil Dumatrait, Jaret Wright, Juan Perez, John Grabow and Matt Capps.
