Armas struggles in Pirates' loss to the Twins

Twins at the plate: Torii Hunter smacked a two-run homer in the first inning that bounced off the roof of the building behind the wall in left field. Justin Morneau had a two-run shot to the opposite field in the fourth, and finished the day with three hits. Michael Cuddyer had a full-speed, diving catch for the first out of the fifth inning.

Pirates at the plate: Catcher Ronnie Paulino went 3-for-3 on the day, and now has 14 hits in his last 20 plate appearances. Shortstop Jack Wilson and Xavier Nady each had two hits, and Wilson added a walk.

Twins on the mound: Boof Bonser fanned five and didn't allow a run in his four innings, scattering seven hits. Jeremy Cummings surrendered a run, hit a batter and gave up one hit in the seventh.

Pirates on the mound: Tony Armas Jr. lasted 4 2/3 innings and surrendered four runs on seven hits (two home runs) and a walk. Masumi Kuwata walked one and gave up one hit in his first action since spraining his right ankle March 9.

Grapefruit League records: Twins 9-9-1; Pirates 6-11-1.

Up next: Minnesota will host Philadelphia at 12:05 p.m. CT on Sunday. Twins lefty Johan Santana will start against Phillies lefty J.A. Happ. Pittsburgh travels to Tampa on Sunday to face the Yankees in a 1:15 p.m. ET game. Zach Duke will get the ball for the Pirates, and will face Mike Mussina. Left-hander Shane Youman is scheduled to pitch in relief for Pittsburgh.
