Pirates at the plate: Jose Bautista went 2-for-2, with a run scored. Neil Walker went 2-for-2 and had a solo home run -- his second of the spring -- in the seventh inning.

Red Sox at the plate: Mike Lowell had a two-run home run, his second long ball of the spring, in the fourth inning. J.D. Drew, Manny Ramirez and Dustin Pedroia each went 1-for-3.

Pirates on the mound: Starter Zach Duke went four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, including a home run, and two walks. Ian Snell, with three strikeouts in two scoreless innings, picked up the win.

Red Sox on the mound: Left-hander Kason Gabbard pitched three scoreless innings, giving up a hit and striking out three. J.C. Romero, who pitched one inning, giving up one run on one hit, Walker's home run, while striking out one, was charged with the loss.

Grapefruit League records: Pirates 5-8; Red Sox 7-8-1.

Up next: The Pirates have a home-away doubleheader with the Reds on Thursday. Paul Maholm is expected to start the day game in Bradenton at 1:05 p.m. ET, opposed by Cincinnati's Kirk Saarloos. In Sarasota at 7:15 p.m., Shawn Chacon is scheduled to face the Reds' Bobby Livingston. The Red Sox travel to Port St. Lucie to face the Mets at 7:10 p.m. Josh Beckett is scheduled to start, opposed by Oliver Perez.
