LaRoche, Walker lead Bucs past Tribe

Pirates at the plate: Adam LaRoche and Neil Walker each had a nice night at the plate. LaRoche cranked out a pair of RBI singles, while Walker drove in two runs with a double in the sixth inning and another with a single in the eighth. Designated hitter Jason Bay had an RBI double in the second.

Indians at the plate: The Indians struggled early, finally scoring an unearned run in the fourth when Shin-Soo Choo scored on Andy Marte's groundout to third. In the seventh, Marte turned a 3-2 pitch from John Grabow into his first homer of the spring.

Pirates on the mound: Right-hander Shawn Chacon had a strong start, giving up just two hits and a walk with a strikeout in three scoreless innings. Right-hander Sean Burnett gave up an unearned run over two innings.

Indians on the mound: Right-hander Paul Byrd worked three innings, giving up two runs on four hits with two strikeouts. Roberto Hernandez worked his third scoreless inning of the spring. Left-hander Aaron Fultz struggled a bit, giving up three runs on three hits in 1 2/3 innings.

Grapefruit League records: Pirates 3-6; Indians 7-3.

Up next: The Pirates will play host to the Yankees on Saturday at McKechnie Field. Paul Maholm will start opposite left-hander Kei Igawa. The Indians will stay home to face the Reds. Jake Westbrook will get the starting nod against right-hander Paul Wilson. Both contests are scheduled for 1:05 p.m. ET.
