Twins at the plate: Jason Bartlett doubled with one out in the first and scored a run later in the inning on a Torii Hunter RBI single to left. Tommy Watkins belted his first home run of the spring, a solo shot in the sixth inning.

Pirates at the plate: Brad Eldred halted his homer streak at four games, but recorded a single in his first at-bat. Don Kelly drove in the first run for the Pirates in the eighth with a single to center. Michael Ryan doubled to tie up the game later that inning and Mike Edwards delivered the game-winning RBI single.

Twins on the mound: Boof Bonser continued his strong case for a spot in the rotation as he pitched three scoreless innings, allowing just two hits and striking out three. Joe Nathan pitched a perfect inning, striking out two. J.D. Durbin struggled in his return to the mound, giving up three runs on four hits in one inning while walking one and hitting one batter with a pitch.

Pirates on the mound: Tony Armas Jr. started for the Bucs and went three innings, allowing one run on three hits with one strikeout. Marty McLeary followed Armas and tossed three innings with the solo homer to Watkins as the only hit he allowed.

Grapefruit League records: Twins 1-6; Pirates 1-5-1.

Up next: The Twins will play a pair of split-squad games at 12:05 p.m. CT on Thursday. One squad will play host to the Red Sox as Johan Santana and Curt Schilling face off for the second time this spring. The Twins will also send a squad to Jupiter to take on the Cardinals with Scott Baker taking the mound against Kip Wells. The Pirates will head back to Bradenton to host the Devil Rays in a 1:05 p.m. ET start. John Wasdin will get the start for the Bucs against lefty Scott Kazmir.
