The Pittsburgh Pirates will conclude their three-game series against the San Diego Padres at PNC Park on Thursday in a game that can be viewed exclusively on MLB.TV.
The Bucs will be looking to improve to 7-2-1 in in their last 10 home series. After dropping the first game of the series on Tuesday, Pittsburgh outslugged San Diego, 9-8, on Wednesday night, thanks in large part to rookie first baseman Brad Eldred's 4-for-4 night. Eldred's two-out double in the ninth inning brought home the winning run for the Pirates.
Mark Redman, the subject of rampant trade speculation prior to the July 31 deadline, will make his 23rd start of the season for the Pirates. Redman, who began the season with quality starts in 13 of his first 14 outings, has been mired in six-week slump. In his last eight starts, the veteran southpaw has gone 1-7 with a 7.28 ERA. Redman's lone win during that stretch came on July 24 when he tossed eight shutout innings against the Colorado Rockies.
Redman will be opposed by San Diego right-hander Brian Lawrence, another pitcher looking to end a long losing slide. In his last outing, Lawrence was tagged for seven runs in seven innings against the Cincinnati Reds on July 29. Lawrence was 0-5 with a 5.11 ERA in six July starts.
MLB Radio's own Billy Sample and Jonathan Mayo will handle the play-by-play duties for the MLB.TV broadcast.

"This is exactly the way Cleveland was two years ago. It's exciting in a way because Cleveland is on the cusp of being a really, really solid perennial powerhouse. I think the Pirates have all of those pieces in place at this point." -- Jody Gerut
